What is the authors style and tone is the novel Snow Falling On Cedars??

Its for my book report due tommorow first day of school.

Guterson explores issues of racism using a criminal trial and portrays young people who attempt to come to terms with the forces of fate, love, and hate that have the potential both to divide and unite communities. Guterson uses words such as mystery, fate, accident, happenstance, and coincidence to describe the inhuman, uncontrollable, and unknowable forces that govern the universe. Indeed, many events in the world of Snow Falling on Cedars simply happen, causelessly and unpredictably, for no reason.
